Christmas
Christmas is a favorite. The images here, if viewed in reverse order, record a decade of seasonal decor exploration, and an evolution toward a more sustainable aesthetic showcasing natural resources and historic inspiration. When there was no budget for store-bought wreaths or garlands, I made my own, delighting in the creative process of arranging fresh greenery foraged from our property. Occasionally I’d build from scratch. Usually, I started with a purchased plain base (i.e. garland), already cut and wired together, with no adornments, and add layers of cedar, pine, fir, holly berries, eucalyptus, orange slices, and whatever else caught my eye. Adding fresh layers throughout the season was key to keeping arrangements lush and colorful all the way to the new year.
