Friedde

Friedde is Pennsylvania Dutch for “peace.” I stayed with my sister for a few days during a difficult stretch, and she gave me the go-ahead to reorganize and redecorate the guest room as my own space. Upon arrival, I made the bed and plugged in a lamp (Cristy left the tulips), and the rest waited for morning. The next day, I pulled the room together in about 12 hours, combining items from her house and thrifted finds of my own that had been waiting for a home. Maybe one day we’ll paint, install curtains, add more polish or more art, but the unassuming beauty and coziness of this wrinkle in time helped provide unspeakably profound refuge.
